After we wanted an Asian superhero, Marvel’s live-action Iron Fist is…just another white guy

When it was first announced that Netflix was planning on producing a live-action adaptation of Marvel’s Iron Fist comic book, fans who’d been calling for more diversity within Marvel saw the show as an opportunity.

What if, they wondered, this Iron Fist wasn’t a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white dude who became the mystic chosen one to a group of Asian people, the way he is in the comic books? What if this Iron Fist was a character of Asian descent himself?

While there was hope that Daniel Rand might be reimagined as being Asian, it turns out that Netflix had other plans in mind. After months of speculation and radio silence from both Marvel, Netflix has finally announced who’ll be playing Iron Fist.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Finn Jones of Game of Thrones fame will be the MCU’s Danny Rand.
