Bill Murray's Netflix Christmas special sounds absolutely insane

Latest

George Clooney joined David Letterman last night for one of the veteran talk show host’s very last episodes of the Late Show. In show business, all conversational roads lead to Bill Murray, and before long, both men were singing the praises of their mutual friend.

After handcuffing himself to Letterman (long story), Clooney mentioned that he’d recently collaborated with his Monuments Men costar on a highly unusual production:

Paul [Shaffer, Letterman’s band leader] and I just did a Bill Murray Christmas special. I sit on a piano bench with Paul and pretend to sing, which they don’t let me. And I rode in a sleigh with Miley Cyrus being pulled by the Rockettes.

Let’s review: Bill Murray, Christmas, George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, the Rockettes. That’s not counting Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, who will also reportedly appear in the special. This sounds like a dream a studio executive would have after overindulging on peppermint schnapps at the corporate holiday party — which is to say, we can’t wait to watch it.

News broke last fall that Murray was working on a carol-heavy Christmas TV special with Sofia Coppola (who directed him in Lost in Translation), but we haven’t heard too many details about the project, which Shaffer says will hit Netflix this winter.

Theory that has yet to be proven false: Bill Murray is Santa Claus.

Letterman and Clooney’s Bill Murray conversation isn’t online in clip form, but you can watch last night’s episode in full here.
