Carl Bernstein, who broke the Watergate story, says Trump's lying is worse than Nixon's

Carl Bernstein, the legendary investigative reporter who was part of the two-person team that initially broke the Watergate story, negatively compared President-elect Donald Trump’s looseness with the truth to Richard Nixon’s on CNN’s Reliable Sources on Sunday.

“No president, including Richard Nixon, has been so ignorant of fact and disdains fact in the way this President-elect does,” Bernstein said. His reporting revealed Nixon as a paranoid leader and eventually lead to his resignation. “It has something to do with the growing sense of authoritarianism [Trump] and his presidency are projecting,” Bernstein said. “The danger of it is obvious and he’s trying to make the conduct of the press the issue, not his own conduct.”

Former President Harry Truman famously once said about Nixon, “Richard Nixon is a no good, lying bastard. He can lie out of both sides of his mouth at the same time, and if he ever caught himself telling the truth, he’d lie just to keep his hand in.”
