Donald Trump Jr.'s Own Stupid Words Come Back to Haunt Him

Trumpland

This morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee released over 2,500 pages of materials, including transcripts, letters, and exhibits from their investigation into the infamous June 2016 Trump Tower meeting. As you may recall, this was the meeting in which Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya to get dirt on then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

In response to the transcripts being made public, Donald Trump Jr. released an extremely smug statement, boasting about how he earnestly complied with authorities:

I’m sorry to shatter the esteemed image you have of Don Jr., but shockingly, he is not the meek and dutiful boy scout we all thought he was. Unfortunately for him, his biggest enemy—his own words, written down and transcribed for history—is telling a different story.

The transcripts show that he was consistently dodging questions and seemed to have been struck with a very coincidental bout of amnesia. Somehow, Donj (yes, I’m still trying to make that happen) could not recall if he spoke with his father on the day a meeting with a person he thought might give him dirt on his father’s opponent was arranged. (He did say he never spoke to Trump Sr. about the meeting specifically.) What’s more, he didn’t even think the meeting was a big deal! Via the Associated Press:

Asked if he thought it would be a problem to take a meeting billed to him as part of a Russian government effort to aid his father, Trump Jr. said no.
“I didn’t think that listening to someone with information relevant to the fitness and character of a presidential candidate would be an issue, no.”

Sassy! In fact, there’s a lot of stuff Donj can’t seem to remember.

Pretty sure stuff like this is the opposite of “forthcoming,” but thanks anyway, Donj!
