Donald Trump's infamous campaign promise about Mexico is suddenly looking very shaky

Latest

After falling silent for months about his beloved wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, President-elect Donald J. Trump resurrected his favorite campaign trail promise with a vengeance on Friday morning, tweeting:

It’s entirely possible that Trump is unaware that the name “Great Wall” is already taken, both by the massive, ancient wall in China and by a kind of racist blockbuster about that wall.

That tweet was likely spurred by CNN reporting on Thursday night that Trump’s transition team has signaled to congressional Republicans that he wants to fund the wall’s construction through the appropriations process, meaning that taxpayers dollars would be on the hook. That directly contradicts Trump’s campaign trail refrain that he was going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.

But Trump–who hadn’t tweeted about the wall since September 1–also seems confident that he can get Mexico to pay the U.S. back after the wall is constructed.

Make sure you save your receipts, Donald.
