Drake’s New Song 'Draft Day' Dedicated to Johnny Manziel, Disses Jay Z
LatestDrake and 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel, aka Johnny Football, are great friends. In fact Drizzy once partied at 1 OAK in NYC while wearing a t-shirt with Johnny Manziel’s face on it.
They’re that close. It makes sense then—if you don’t really think about it, because that’s actually kind of weird—that the former DeGrassi alum who started from the bottom but is now here talks about his footballing pal in his new song “Draft Day,” which was just posted to October’s Very Own official SoundCloud.
Beyond the curious shoutout to Manziel—and to fellow Torontonian Andrew Wiggins—Drizzy also responds to Jay Z (“I heard they talkin’ crazy. I was out of town.”). The legendary rapper had previously dissed Drake in a Jay Electronica mix tape song, faux-apologizing for rapping about art.
You can listen to the new track, which samples Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing),” below, and if you want to delve into the lyrics, the users over at Rap Genius have already annotated them.
