Here’s what Latino celebrities are saying about Trump's 'SNL' appearance

Donald Trump hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend has drawn sharp criticism from Latino lawmakers and immigration groups, prompted online petitions and even triggered small protests this week in New York.

Increasingly, Latino celebrities are weighing in on the show’s decision. Here’s what they’re saying:

JOHN LEGUIZAMO

In an interview with Yahoo! News Live this week, the Colombia-born actor and producer made it clear he won’t be watching the show on Saturday or ever again. “I’m all for freedom of speech, but this is different,” he said. “He’s not doing it politically … This is celebrating somebody who, if he’d said those things about any other ethnic group, he would not be on SNL.”

Leguizamo added, “I find it hurtful and insulting, and you’re celebrating someone who has said some horrible things. I find it unacceptable, I will not watch SNL anymore.”

GEORGE LOPEZ

The comedian has used a biting comedy skit to rip SNL’s decision. In a video posted on the Funny or Die website, Lopez portrays a “Mexican Donald Trump” who hosts a fictional show called Noche de Sabado en Vivo, Spanish for Saturday Night Live. He plays “Humpty Dumpty Trumpty” in the skit and the character sports a red “Make Mexico Great Again” hat, a satirical take on Trump’s signature “Make America Great Again” slogan.

AL MADRIGAL

Madrigal also has lashed out at SNL. He’s urged people to sign a moveon.org petition titled “No room for hate Saturday Night Live:Tell NBC to dump Donald Trump as host.”

EVA LONGORIA

The actress and political activist says people should simply not watch Saturday’s show.

“We as a Hispanic community have a choice not to watch it,” she recently told The Wrap. “That’s our choice. That’s what we can do. That’s what you’re supposed to do. Boycott that night, and then let that show feel that ‘oh, OK we did make a bad decision.’”

“This is part of freedom of speech, freedom of press. [Trump] has his right — not only that, [SNL executive producer[ Lorne Michaels has a right to book whoever he wants.”

JUNOT DIAZ, ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ INARRIUTO & OTHERS

Diaz, Gonzalez Inarriuto and dozens of other Latino intellectuals, artists, authors and scientists released a letter this week heavily criticizing Trump. Although it didn’t directly address SNL, it came just days before Trump was scheduled to host the show, and amid growing calls for NBC to revoke his invitation.
