Here's Where You Know the New 'Star Wars' Cast From

Latest

Big news from the official Star Wars website this morning: The official cast for the seventh movie in the space epic has been announced.

Speculation started earlier this week when eagle-eyed nerds spotted Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Harrison Ford in London, where filming for Episode VII is taking place. Now we know: The trio will be reprising their star-making roles as Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo.

Here’s the full cast, as well as where you know all these new people from.

Mark Hamill — You probably know him best as Luke Skywalker, but for the comics/voice acting fans out there, he’s also known as the voice of Joker from the Batman animated series.

Carrie Fisher — Princess Leia and, more recently, the voice of Peter’s boss on “Family Guy.”

Harrison Ford — Han Solo, as well as a few bit parts in indie movies you might have heard of, such as “Indiana Jones” and “Blade Runner.”

Peter Mayhew — Chewbacca, as seen in all the “Star Wars” movies, as well as on an episode of “Glee,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” and the seminal work/movie George Lucas pretends doesn’t exist — the Star Wars Holiday Special.

Anthony Daniels — Daniels is both the voice of C-3PO and the guy inside the suit. Like Peter Mayhew, he’s kind of made that his career—he’s voiced C-3PO in basically every “Star Wars” video games and animated series, including but not limited to the video Monopoly version and an episode of “Robot Chicken.”

Kenny Baker — Like Anthony Daniels, Baker is the person inside the R2-D2 suit, although (obviously) the noises are computer-generated. Other than that, he was a character named “Bob Foreskin” in a movie called “Boobs in the Wood,” so, now you know that’s a thing that exists. You’re welcome.

Andy Serkis — He played Gollum from the “Lord of the Rings” series and Caesar in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” Serkis’ specialty is doing roles with motion capture, so it’ll be interesting to see who or what he’s playing in this movie.

Adam Driver — The boyfriend from “Girls” and Al Cody from “Inside Llewyn Davis.” (Photo credit: Getty Images)

Oscar Isaac — Also from “Inside Llewyn Davis” as the titular character.

John Boyega — Moses from “Attack the Block.” (Photo credit: Getty Images)

Domhnall Gleeson — Bill Weasly from the “Harry Potter” movies and the main character in the romantic comedy “About Time.” (Photo credit: Getty Images)

Max Von Sydow — Tom Cruise’s boss from “Minority Report” and the priest from the “Exorcist” movies. (Photo credit: Getty Images)

Daisy Ridley — Uh, not much. She is credited as “Stage Hand” in an episode of a show called “Toast of London.”

Notably missing from the list: Lupita N’yongo, who was rumored to be a contender for a role.

The cast announcement didn’t say which roles the new actors are playing. An early guess: Driver and Ridley are Jacen and Jaina Solo (two of Leia and Han Solo’s kids) and Von Sydow is General Thrawn.

The movie is set to open on December 18, 2015.
