Hmm, where have we seen Moschino’s 'paper doll' collection before?

The New York Times wasn’t kidding when it said that the fashion world was “obsessed” with RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Moschino’s runway show at Milan Fashion Week last Thursday found models transformed into life-size paper dolls, continuing creative director Jeremy Scott’s penchant for pilfering nostalgia and other recognizable consumer goods as inspiration for the fashion house’s designs.

But the square white tabs and two-dimensional trompe l’œil illusions might have had another source to cite: Milk from RuPaul’s Drag Race, who debuted a paper doll-inspired lip-sync number set to Dreamgirls classic “I Am Changing” at the Divas of Drag tour in March.

Milk herself even noticed the similarities. Over on Instagram, she posted a crop of her various 2D quick changes, which she captioned with the lighthearted (?) hashtag “#moppedbymoschino.”

Here’s a bunch of facts: Milk is a drag queen and nightlife persona from New York who competed on season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race. She has somewhat of a presence in the fashion world, too, having been featured in Marc Jacobs’ spring/summer 2016 campaign shot by David Sims. Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott served as a guest judge on a recent episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, which was filmed about a year ago. Scott was also sued by graffiti artist Rime for allegedly lifting signature parts of his work to design Moschino’s fall 2015 collection. The suit was settled out of court in July, but not before the fashion house’s legal team could compare Rime to the Black Dahlia’s killer (????).
