A black Houston man who was allegedly wielding a gun was shot and killed by police officers early Saturday morning, according to media reports.
The man’s wife identified him as Alva Braziel, according to ABC 13. He died at the scene, ABC13 reported.
According to Click 2 Houston, Braziel pointed the gun at officers. The officers reportedly warned Braziel to drop the weapon several times.
According to KHOU, one of the officers involved has served for 13 years and the other was a 10-year veteran of the police department.
Houston police did not return a request for comment.
The officer-involved shooting is just one day after five police officers were shot and killed in Dallas by Micah Xavier Johnson during a Black Lives Matter protest. The protest, which had been peaceful until Johnson began shooting, had been in reaction to the shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. Those two men, both African-American and both reportedly licensed gun owners, were shot and killed by police officers.
