Yesterday, Entertainment Tonight reported that Lady Gaga, who is performing at the Super Bowl halftime show this year, was "told by the NFL that she cannot say anything or bring anything up about the election or Mention Donald Trump."
Intriguing! Was Gaga (who sang the national anthem at last year's Super Bowl) planning on pulling some big stunt, like dropping a giant #NotMyPresident banner or doing some golden showers-themed performance art?
Well apparently, it was just a bunch of FAKE NEWS because the NFL told CNN that the allegations are "false." Senior vice president of communications for the NFL Natalie Ravitz told CNN:
This is unsourced nonsense from people trying to stir up controversy where there is none. The Super Bowl is a time when people really come together. Lady Gaga is focused on putting together an amazing show for fans and we love working with her on it; we aren't going to be distracted by this.
Wait, so does that mean Gaga is allowed to talk about Trump and the election? Sure, maybe she’s planning on just giving an uneventful performance, or worse, focusing on “healing our country,” and all this anti-Trump talk is just PR people riling folks up. ORR MAYYBEEE this could mean that just two weeks after Trump’s inauguration we’re going to see something a little political from a woman who has campaigned for Hillary, staged a protest outside Trump Tower after he won the election, petitioned the Electoral College to change their votes, called Melania Trump out on her hypocritical stance against bullying, written an impassioned essay following the release of the Access Hollywood tapes, joined Vice President Joe Biden for his “It’s On Us” campaign to end sexual assault on college campuses, and of course has consistently advocated for LGBTQ rights?
The Super Bowl is always the most watched television broadcast in the United States—meaning that Gaga will have the biggest platform anyone will ever get in this country to make her move. I mean, I'm assuming that she'll probably go the "Choose love" route because let's be real, would the NFL really let her pull something like that? They're probably still filing through complaints over Beyoncé's performance last year. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if she’s going to do something or if all this hullaballoo is just A PARFACT ILLUZHAAAN.
