Jada Pinkett Smith: maybe people of color should boycott the Oscars

Latest

The Oscars, are, yet again, going to be an extremely white affair, and people are naturally angered by the world’s most prestigious film awards ignoring anybody who doesn’t look like Eddie Redmayne or the same white woman five times over.

On Saturday, Jada Pinkett Smith—who, in an alternate universe, might have been an Oscar contender for her work in “Magic Mike XXL”—floated an intriguing response to this continual problem. If people of color are shut out of the awards, she asked, maybe they shouldn’t participate in the awards show.

No word yet on what this year’s Oscars host, Chris Rock—who has already called the show “the white BET awards”—thinks about Pinkett Smith’s suggestion.
