Jorge Ramos makes the most of his 10 seconds with the Pope

Latest

I had a pretty interesting weekend. I was in Rome participating in the Global Forum, organized by Fortune and Time magazine.

More than 100 CEOs, philanthropists, journalists, labor, and church leaders got together to find concrete solutions to huge world problems, like poverty, immigration and health care.

But then, at the end of the conference, we were promised a visit to the Sistine Chapel and a meeting with the Pope. And we did.

I knew it was going to be just a hand shake, no more than 10 seconds, so I spent a lot of time thinking about what to say to the Pope.

I made a long line. More than 400 people were waiting and when it was my turn, I said the following in Spanish:

“Pope Francis, don’t forget the immigrants that Trump wants to deport.”

The Pope just smiled but those around the Pope were not smiling.

Clearly, it was not the right moment to start a diplomatic confrontation with the U.S. President-elect. And that’s it. Those were my 10 seconds with the Pope.

Most likely, he won’t remember that but I always will.
