Kid Cudi has voluntarily entered rehab to treat anxiety and depression, MTV News reports.

The rapper, born Scott Mescudi, announced the news in a lengthy, emotionally raw Facebook post published Tuesday night. Cudi told fans that he has been grappling with anxiety, depression, and “suicidal urges” his entire life. In seeking treatment at an inpatient facility, he hopes to find the “peace” and “love” he has been unable to grant himself thus far in life.

“My anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it,” he wrote on Facebook. “Im tired of being held back in my life. I deserve to have peace. I deserve to be happy and smiling. Why not me? I guess I give so much of myself to others I forgot that I need to show myself some love too. I think I never really knew how. Im scared, im sad, I feel like I let a lot of people down and again, Im sorry. Its time I fix me. Im nervous but ima get through this.”

Cudi added that his upcoming sixth album, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’, is “still on the way” despite taking time off for his own health. The 32-year-old musician also said that he felt “ashamed” about admitting such “difficult” things so publicly, but fans were quick to reassure him that he had nothing to feel ashamed about.

“Never be ashamed about needing help,” wrote one person named Kellie. “you are showing thousands of young people the correct way to deal with depression and suicidal thoughts.”
