Nebraska mother charged after allegedly starving kids, forcing them to watch 'Mommie Dearest'

A Nebraska woman has been charged with child endangerment after allowing her boyfriend to duct-tape her two boys to chairs for a forced viewing of Mommie Dearest, according to police records obtained by the Smoking Gun.

Mary Lucas, 28, has also been charged with allegedly starving her 4- and 7-year-old sons, who told police that they did not eat during the entire weekend of the forced viewing.

Lucas’ boyfriend, 29-year-old Glenn Oliver, is currently in jail on charges of false imprisonment and child abuse.

What prompted the punishment? Lucas told police that her sons had called her the “meanest mommy,” so she decided to show them “Hollywood’s perfect representation of a mean mother.” Lucas also revealed to police that her own mother made her see the Faye Dunaway film when she was a child.

Mommie Dearest is a 1981 Joan Crawford biopic based on her daughter, Christina Crawford’s, 1978 tell-all memoir. The film, a critical failure now embraced as a camp classic, recounts the abuse Christina claims to have suffered at the hands of her Academy Award-winning mother—including starvation.
