Orlando shooting survivors will tell their story on an upcoming MTV 'True Life'

Latest

Two months after after the mass shooting at Orlando LGBTQ nightclub Pulse, MTV will air a special episode of “True Life” exploring the lives of some of the survivors.

“True Life: We Are Orlando” will follow four survivors of the mass shooting, which left 49 people dead and another 53 people injured, most of them LGBTQ Latinxs and people of color. Viewers will watch as Tony Marrero, Patience Carter, Tiara Parker, and Joshua McGill “come to terms with the trauma they experienced in order to get their lives back on track,” Variety reports.

“People think that because I’m released from the hospital and I’m in rehab that I’m OK,” Tony Marrero, one of the survivors featured in the episode, says in a preview clip. “I’m not OK, and not only physical. I can’t even start with mentally. I’m not nearly OK.”

The episode will air on Monday, Aug. 15. Short video clips featuring interviews with members of Orlando’s LGBTQ community and other bonus footage will be released on MTV’s various social media platforms, including Snapchat Discover, Instagram, Facebook, and Tumblr.
