Paul Ryan’s Spokeswoman Fed Up With People Calling Her Out on Misleading Health Care Tweet

Latest

The press secretary for House Speaker Paul Ryan, AshLee Strong, has had it with people bothering her when she’s trying to mislead the public on the Republican health care bill.

On Saturday, Strong was simply going about her business “setting the record straight” on the Republican’s American Health Care Act (AHCA)—and by straight, she means all kinds of crooked.

“AHCA was posted online a month ago, went through 4 committees, & has been scored by CBO – twice,” she tweeted Saturday morning.

Pesky reporters and really anyone who’s been following the news lately knew that the current version of the bill passed by the House this week had in fact not been scored by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), as Strong claimed. Many asked her for a link to that mystery CBO score.

But Strong doubled down with a second tweet containing links to the CBO’s scoring of prior versions of the bill on March 13 and 23. For good measure, she added the hashtag #facts.

Apparently, those annoying reporters and confused social media users were left with even more questions, prompting Strong to complain about her Twitter feed being “cluttered w/ the ‘tolerant’ left swearing at me.”

That went over well.

Reached by email by BuzzFeed, Strong stood by her comments, saying, Only narrow changes have been made since the last score.”
