President to Visit, Perhaps Talk to Wife After Surgery

White House

It’s no secret that President Donald Trump and his complicit-yet-miserable wife Melania aren’t exactly the Barack and Michelle of 2018. Melania’s signature move has become swatting her husband’s hand away whenever he tries to hold her hand, and the president even admitted that he didn’t get anything special for her birthday a couple weeks ago.

The latest sign that there is probably trouble in paradise (if your conception of paradise is Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino writing The Great Gatsby)? The president wasn’t there when his wife underwent a medical procedure to treat what the White House deemed a “benign kidney condition” today. The White House issued a statement on the procedure today that said:

This morning, First Lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. The procedure was successful and there were no complications. Mrs. Trump is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and will likely remain there for the duration of the week. The First Lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.

While she’s in recovery and everything seems to be fine, her husband apparently hung back, opting to not accompany her to the procedure. But don’t worry—he is definitely going to visit her, possibly for a full ten minutes or so. Maybe he will bring her something this time?

If the procedure really wasn’t that serious, it makes sense that the man running the country might not have time to be with his wife. But aside from his 11:00 intelligence briefing and lunch with Mike Pence, Trump had nothing else going on today (aside from maybe tweeting about the new U.S. embassy in Jerusalem and ignoring the more than 50 Palestinians killed protesting in Gaza). Just be a normal, nice husband for once!
