Protesters across the country stand up to Donald Trump

Latest

Protesters took to the streets in opposition to Donald Trump across the country on Saturday.

In Arizona, people blocked a highway leading to a Trump rally. They held signs with slogans like “Combat white supremacy.”

Carlos Garcia, the executive director of Puente Arizona, which helped organize the protest, said in a statement that Arizona residents were more than familiar with Trump’s anti-immigrant stances.

“The Trump effect isn’t just about a candidate,” he said. “Trump’s ugly rhetoric is being turned into policy proposals as we speak that threaten the wholeness of our families and the safety of our communities. All people of conscience have to unite to stop it.”

And in New York, thousands of protesters mobilized in front of Trump Tower, Trump’s world headquarters on 5th Avenue. The group Cosmopolitan Antifascists said it had organized the event. In a Facebook post, it explained why:

Trump’s policies threaten many of us in the Black, Latino, LGBTQIA+, Muslim, and other communities. These policies and type of speech has no place in this country, and certainly does not have a place in the city that Trump grew his empire in—a city known as a melting pot and home for many of the same people Trump continues to wage war on.

There were reports of arrests at the rally, including of journalists.
