'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' lightsabers (?) its way to a box office record

Did you know that Star Wars is a popular film series? Here’s how popular it is: Star Wars: The Force Awakens just broke the record for the biggest opening weekend in movie history.

Disney—which owns the space battle franchise and is also a parent company of Fusion—said Sunday that The Force Awakens—which concerns a Force whose slumber is interrupted by various events—made $238 million dollars in North America over the past three days. That is more than any other movie has ever made. The movie accomplished this by getting everyone and their mothers, fathers, great-nephews and fish to go to a theater, and then maybe go again.

Globally, SW: TFA made $517 million, which is the second-biggest international opening evaaaaaaahhh. George Lucas, the Disney people and everyone else will no doubt be satisfied about the health of their wallets this morning.
