They’re both extremely rich. They both have gone through the Republican nomination process. But former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney is decidedly not a fan of Donald Trump.

Romney gave a speech this morning at the University of Utah sharply criticize the leading Republican candidate with dire warnings about the damage a Trump presidency would cause the U.S.

Romney didn’t hold anything back, with the following sick burns on Trump (with a few thrown in against Hillary Clinton as a bonus).

  • “You say, wait wait wait, isn’t Donald Trump a huge business success and doesn’t he know what he’s talking about. No, he isn’t, and no he doesn’t.”
  • “What happened to Trump Airlines? And Trump University? And Trump Magazine? And Trump Steaks? And Trump Vodka? A business genius he is not.”
  • “Now, Donald Trump tells us he is very smart .”
  • “I’m afraid when it comes to foreign policy he is very, very not smart.”
  • “Donald Trump says he admires Vladimir Putin, while has called George W Bush a liar. That is a twisted example of evil trumping good.”
  • “Dishonesty is Trump’s hallmark.”
  • “Trump relishes any poll that reflects what he thinks of himself. But polls are also saying that he will lose to Hillary Clinton.”
  • “A person so untrustworthy and dishonest as Hillary Clinton must not become president.  But a Trump nomination enables her victory.”
  • “Here’s what I know. Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud.”
  • “His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University.”
  • “He’s playing the American public for suckers.”
  • “He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat.”
  • “His domestic policies would lead to recession.”
  • “His foreign policies would make America and the world less safe.”
  • “He has neither the temperament nor the judgment to be president.”
  • “And his personal qualities would mean that America would cease to be a shining city on a hill.”

Not one to let even lukewarm criticism pass him by, Trump and Trump proxies mounted a pre-emptive critical assault on Romney on Thursday morning, pointing out his failed presidential bid.

Romney praised Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and John Kasich as having offered serious policy proposals to address problems facing the U.S. Ben Carson did not come up.
