The real unsolved mystery: Where the hell is 'Serial' season two?

Latest

As the end of the year creeps closer and closer, Serial fans around the world are struggling to keep their shit together.

Since its debut in October 2014, the wildly addictive podcast has exceeded 100 million downloads on iTunes. The first season of the Peabody-winning This American Life spinoff reinvestigated the 1999 murder of high school senior Hae Min Lee, and the second season—believed to follow the controversial story of former POW Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl—is due to premiere any minute now. Any. Minute. Now.

Technically, it was due to premiere many, many minutes ago. In an October interview with host Sarah Koenig, Glamour reported that fans could expect the second season in November—a month that, in case you haven’t checked your calendar recently, has come and gone. According to the official website, the podcast will return “sometime later in 2015.” On November 24, the @serial account tweeted that the podcast would return “soon.” Last year, new episodes of Serial dropped Thursdays at 6 a.m. (now you’ll be able to stream them on Pandora, too), but there are only four Thursdays left before 2016.

The pressure on the Serial team must be unimaginably high, especially considering Koenig and her production staff are simultaneously reporting the third season as they prepare to broadcast the second.

That said, if there’s a Serial fan in your life, please offer them all the support you can during this difficult time.
