This job ad for a nurse in New York appears to be openly racist

A healthcare company in New York is facing criticism for what looks like a blatantly discriminatory job posting in a local newspaper that ran last week.

The ad, posted on Oct. 15 in the NY Pennysaver, specified that Interim Health is looking for a “Laid back nurse, no haitians.”

New York State Senator David Carlucci tweeted the ad over the weekend:

“The ad placed is a blatant form of discrimination that cannot be tolerated in our community or in our state,” Carlucci told ABC 7 New York. State and federal laws make it illegal to discriminate against job seekers based on their race.

Interim Health did not respond to a request for comment this morning. According to Pix 11, the company is a large national home healthcare and staffing provider and employs around 75,000 workers across the country.

Update: Interim Health has posted a statement on their Nanuet, New York jobs site apologizing for the ad. They said they are conducting a “comprehensive review.”
