Trump Misspells the First Lady's Name, Then Goes On a Twitter Rant

Latest

We can’t really say that President Donald Trump is becoming unraveled because he’s been unraveled since before taking over the White House. But how can anyone take seriously anything said (or tweeted) by the country’s most prolific liar, who can’t even spell his wife’s name correctly on the first try?

The Trump administration has had trouble spelling since day one. The president and his staff have misspelled countless names from British Prime Minister Theresa May (three times) to the country of Colombia, and from Dwyane Wade to W.E.B. DuBois. His administration even misspelled the word “education.”

But getting the first lady’s name wrong on the first try while welcoming her home from an extended hospital stay is embarrassing. It’s almost as bad as not getting her anything for her birthday.

Melania Trump returned to the White House on Saturday after spending a week at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center following a kidney embolization procedure on Monday, CNN reported. She was expected to return sooner, but something that White House officials don’t want to talk about seems to have happened. At any rate, her husband, the president, welcomed her back with this tweet:

“Great to have our incredible First Lady back home in the White House. Melanie is feeling and doing really well. Thank you for all of your prayers and best wishes!”

He quickly deleted that tweet and sent another with the correct spelling of his third wife’s name.

Trump has had a lot on his mind lately, as is evident from a series of tweet-rants about Hillary Clinton, “Witch Hunts,” and swamps that he sent on Sunday. As of this writing, Trump has tweeted six times Sunday morning, and it’s not even close to noon.

“Things are really getting ridiculous,” Trump correctly observed in his first tweet of the day. “The Failing and Crooked (but not as Crooked as Hillary Clinton) @nytimes has done a long & boring story indicating that the World’s most expensive Witch Hunt has found nothing on Russia & me so now they are looking at the rest of the World!”

He continued by ranting about a “$20,000,000 Witch Hunt, composed of 13 Angry and Heavily Conflicted Democrats,” Hillary Clinton’s emails, midterm elections, the infamous Clinton “Server,” and John Podesta’s family. Key words are capitalized throughout, although we’re not sure why.

What’s probably going on here is that the president is jealous that the world’s attention was focused yesterday on a beautiful royal wedding instead of on him. Or, here’s another take:

Update, Sunday 4:07 p.m.: The Trump tweet count for today is now up to eight, not counting a retweet of the president’s son Eric. Tweet No. 7 referred again to a “Witch Hunt” and featured a misplaced apostrophe on “Oh’ great!”

The eighth tweet was a bit more serious, with Trump hereby demanding that the Justice Department “look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes.”
