Wisconsin School District Launches Probe Into Photo of Students Appearing to Give Nazi Salute

Latest

School officials in the Wisconsin community of Baraboo are scrambling to distance themselves from a picture showing dozens of high school students giving what appears to be a Nazi salute on the steps of a local building.

In a letter to parents sent Monday, the Baraboo School District claimed the picture was taken off school property this past spring.

According to journalist Jules Suzdaltsev, whose early Monday tweets helped bring the picture to prominence, the photo was taken before last year’s Baraboo High School junior prom.

Echoing the letter sent to parents on Monday, Baraboo School District Administrator Lori Mueller also claimed on Twitter that the district was looking into the photograph, and would pursue “any and all available and appropriate actions, including legal, to address.”

WISC reported that until the image went viral on Monday morning, the original picture could be found on the website for Wheel Memories, a family-run photography company. The photograph has since been removed, and replaced with a bizarre message blaming “malevolent behavior on the part of some in society.”

I have reached out to Wheel Memories to learn why the picture stayed up for months. Reached for comment, a spokesperson for the Baraboo School District pointed to the district’s statement on Twitter and added, “We are launching an investigation, and as such, are unable to provide additional details at this time.”

Meanwhile, in the case of Baraboo High School class of 2019 it looks like the kids aren’t so much all right as they are all reich.
