You should watch Amber Heard's powerful PSA on domestic violence

Latest

In an emotional video, Amber Heard opens up about her experience with domestic violence, using her privilege and public platform to encourage others to speak up and seek support. The actress divorced Johnny Depp earlier this year amid allegations of domestic abuse.

In the PSA, she holds back tears while talking about how reaching out to supportive friends allowed her to get help.

Telling someone safe is the beginning of choosing yourself. Think about it. If I hadn’t had that, if I hadn’t had a few people that I really trust around me, a few women, support, a few friends, if I didn’t have them around me, how different my life would be.

The video is part of the #GirlGaze Project, a multimedia initiative for female photographers started by Amanda de Cadenet, a British TV host who publicly supported Heard during the divorce. The domestic violence PSA comes in honor of the EU’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Towards Women.
