A homophobic American pastor took his hateful act to Botswana. So Botswana had him deported.

Pastor Steven Anderson, of the Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, Ariz., is having a rough time these days. We last saw him using a sermon to prove man’s dominion over women by challenging his female congregants to an arm wrestling contest. And recording it and putting it on Youtube. He also celebrated the deaths of the gay victims of the Orlando massacre.

You know who thought this was all pretty stupid? The entire African nation of Botswana. In fact, Botswana was so unimpressed with Anderson’s hatefulness that it had him deported when he made a trip there.

Anderson evidently didn’t think this was going to happen. After being banned from South Africa, he announced he was moving on to Botswana.

“[T]hank God we still have a wide open door in Botswana,” reads a post on the Facebook page of Anderson’s church, probably referring to the fact that gay acts are illegal in Botswana. “Stand by for reports of MULTITUDES saved in Botswana, where religious freedom still exists.”

Whoops! The BBC reported that private security guards took Anderson into custody at a radio station in Botswana’s capitol of Gabarone.

President Ian Khama said he issued the order after Anderson after he told a radio station in Botswana’s capitol of Gabarone that gays and lesbians should be killed, according to Reuters.

“We don’t want hate speech in this country,” Khama told Reuters. “Let him do it in his own country.”

The deportation didn’t come fast enough to stop Anderson from uploading eight videos claiming to be from Botswana to his Youtube account, including several sermons and vlogs. In a video labeled “Botswana Culture From an American Perspective,” Anderson had some observations about the country including:

  • “I feel totally safe here. It doesn’t seem to be a high crime area whatsoever. “
  • “The plant life appears to be the exact same plant life as back in Arizona.”
  • “They do have very strong male-female roles here.”
  • “They don’t want you as a man to do anything that would be considered womanly work.” (followed by “That was pretty cool.”)
  • “Things move slowly here.”
  • “The food’s been great.”

Good to know.
