Airbnb is offering Mexicans a chance to relive their best 'El Chavo del Ocho' memories
LatestIf you grew up watching Mexico’s legendary sitcom El Chavo del Ocho, Airbnb wants to help you relive some of those fond childhood memories.
The online host community has launched a contest offering a one-night stay on a recreated set of the show’s neighborhood, allowing fans the chance to reconnect with the iconic characters made famous by popular Mexican comedian Chespirito.
His comedic portrayals of El Chavo, a poor orphan who lived in a barrel, and El Chapulin Colorado, a local parody of the superhero genre, not only found huge audiences in Mexico, but across Latin America. The show, first broadcasted in 1971, continues to air in countries throughout the region.
For a chance to spend a night in El Chavo’s vecindad, contestants need to submit a brief description explaining why they should be chosen the winner. The grand prize will include a night in an apartment filled with El Chavo memorabilia.
“It’s completely redesigned and will have decoration inspired by El Chavo del Ocho,” reads an Airbnb post. Amenities include a living room with a flat screen TV to watch an El Chavo marathon and a view of El Chavo’s famous neighborhood backdrop.
Chespirito’s son, Roberto Gomez Fernandez, will offer the winners a tour of the redesigned neighborhood where characters Quico, La Chilindrina, Doña Florinda, Don Ramón and Señor Barriga came to life. Guests will be able to see the series’ original barrel and the typewriter where Chespirito wrote stories and sketch comedy.
The Airbnb promotion promises to “make childhood dreams a reality.”
