Ali Wong inspired the most badass (and pregnant) costumes of Halloween 2016

Latest

This past Halloween weekend, I’m sure you saw plenty of Harley Quinns and Jokers, Elevens, and maybe some Reys, but there was one trend that was far more subtle, empowering, and very pregnant: Ali Wong.

In honor of the stand-up comic, TV writer, actress, and badass, these women wore her signature red glasses, fitted black-and-white striped dress, and of course, baby bump. The look is inspired by Wong’s Netflix special Baby Cobra, which she taped while seven and a half months pregnant.

It’s not every day that we see an Asian woman in pop culture who isn’t sexualized or portrayed as exotic, but who’s just normal—and also very hilarious. On top of that, when do we ever get to see pregnant women kicking ass? Wong herself said it best:

“It’s very rare and unusual to see a female comic perform pregnant, because … female comics don’t get pregnant. Just try to think of one. I dare you. There’s none of them. Once they do get pregnant they generally disappear.”

Clearly, Wong’s act spoke to plenty of women (and a few men!) who donned the Baby Cobra outfit, which, by the way, seems like a pretty comfortable costume for both pregnant people and nonpreggos. Wong reposted a bunch of the photos to her own Instagram, and believe you me, there are so many more costumes under the #aliwong tag on Insta.
