Another country is considering banning Donald Trump for his hateful rhetoric

Irish parliament will be the latest country to debate banning Donald Trump from their shores, TheJournal.ie reports, after local backlash against his comments that he wants to ban Muslims from entering the United States.

Ireland’s Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions received two separate petitions to ban Trump in December. Though they will be discussed by the committee, it seems unlikely that they will result in any action, partly because under Ireland’s public petitions system, an individual person cannot be singled out, according to TheJournal.ie.

Irish leaders condemned Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric in December, according to the Irish Times, with the country’s head of government, Taoiseach Enda Kenny, saying, “comments made in the United States are not acceptable to me or to people in this country. Free speech is one thing. The comments made are unacceptable.”

Last month an English petition to ban Trump gained enough momentum in the form of more than 100,000 signatures, enough that English parliament will have to discuss it next week. In late December, British home secretary Theresa May said that Trump could be banned form the U.K. because his Islamaphobic policies are “non-conducive to the public good.”
