Before she was a badass fighter, Ronda Rousey was a Pokémon master
LatestRonda Rousey’s always been the very best. Like no one ever was. As if breaking the UFC’s brand, and being an unstoppable force in the ring weren’t enough, it turns out that once upon a time, Rousey was a moderator for GameTalk‘s Pokémon Stadium 2 message board.
The then 16-year old Rousey went by the screen name Mew182 and described her online persona as being 12 feet tall, purple, scaly, and having a chronic problem with chickens.
“Every hour or so a chicken falls out of my ear. You get used to it after a while,” she wrote in her message board profile. “It’s like the hiccups. Having all those chickens around get to be kind of a pain though.”
In her profile, Rousey lists interest (like judo) that square away with the persona that the public’s recently come to know, but she also reveals herself to be an unabashed nerd into a wide variety of video games other than Pokémon.
“The summer I got Zelda Ocarina of Time I would even dream about it. Then I’d roll out of bed and play it some more,” she wrote. “To me games are like movies.”
She continues:
“I get emotionally involved, and that’s what makes it so hard to erase an old game. I have about eight Pokemon cartridges and almost as many memory cards for various systems. I also love how games get creative on different levels. Jak and Daxter is a good example. There are things you can do on a bird, in a vehicle, on foot, down a slide, under water, and over lava. There are just a million new ways to play every level so the game doesn’t get repetitive or boring.”
