Beyoncé has now won more VMAs than anyone in history

Latest

Queen Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter has taken her rightful place on the throne of the MTV Video Music Awards. After winning six of moonmen at last night’s award ceremony, Beyoncé surpassed Madonna to become the most decorated artist in VMA history with 22.

Coming into tonight’s award ceremony Beyoncé had won 16 moonmen since her first award in 2003. Her two most awarded videos? “Crazy in Love” and “Run the World (Girls),” which each have 3 wins. Let’s watch them again in celebration!

Beyoncé was nominated for eleven awards tonight. She won six of them, including Best Female Video and Video of the Year. “Formation,” the first single from her critically acclaimed album Lemonade, swept the technical awards for the night.

And Beyoncé may hold on to this title for quite some time. Madonna, who won her first VMA in 1986, hasn’t won a Moonman since 1999, and is now 2 behind Beyoncé. And Lady Gaga is the next closest artist with only 13 VMAs.

But then again, Beyoncé definitely belongs at the top.
