The power of Botox to make wrinkles disappear and turn people's faces into frozen emotionless masks has been well documented. But now the company behind the muscle-paralyzing drug is hoping to expand beyond cosmetic use and reinvent itself after 25 years of wrinkle-erasing, and some of the new uses are quite surprising!
According to the Wall Street Journal, Botox is now being used to treat conditions ranging from premature ejaculation to eyelid spasms to juvenile cerebral palsy. Doctors believe that Botox can also be used to treat depression, because it prevents the face from being able to frown (that is not made-up).
"I had been using Botox all the time to make people look better, and I would get rid of people's frowning from a purely cosmetic point of view," Dr. Eric Finzi, a dermatologist specializing in cosmetic procedures, told the WSJ. "It dawned on me that this should really help in the treatment of mental health disorders."
Botox: your new one-stop treatment for when you're feeling old, sad and unable to ejaculate within a proper time frame.
