Can we give the 'Fences' trailer an Academy Award?

Latest

If the Academy gave out Oscars on the basis of trailers alone, I think Denzel Washington and Viola Davis would have their categories on lock for 2017. The first teaser for Fences was released today, and this wrenching domestic drama looks like a Movie with a capital M:

Set in 1950s Pittsburgh, the August Wilson play—which won both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony for Best Play in 1997—centers around a baseball player (Washington, who also directs the Paramount adaptation) turned sanitation worker and his wife (Davis) and family.

We know it’s only September, but please, Oscars—don’t be so white this year. Fences will open nationwide on December 25.
