Cardi B's Joyous Reign Has Hit New Heights

Latest

2017 may have been a year of political chaos and increasingly bold white supremacy, but there is one person whose successes have brightened things up. She’s given us the biggest and best underdog story of the year and is making the idea of 2018 just a little more bearable. Of course I’m talking about none other than Cardi B. The Bronx native has broken all kinds of ground this year, and this week she made history once again.

That’s right: Cardi B just became the first female rapper to have her first three singles make it to the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100. Specific, but exciting! This week, “MotorSport,” her collab with Migos and Nicki Minaj, entered the top 10, reaching No. 6. Previously G-Eazy’s “No Limit,” on which she was featured along with A$AP Rocky peaked at No. 7, and of course her solo hit “Bodak Yellow” reached the very top of the chart back in September, the first solo female rap song to do so in nearly 20 years.

Hopefully Cardi’s joyous reign continues well into 2018. She’s set to drop her debut studio album next year though the date is unclear. Meanwhile, just yesterday, all of this happened: she and Puerto Rican artist Ozuna dropped the music video for their mostly Spanish-language collab “La Modelo”; the video for “No Limit” dropped; and she announced the release of another single with 21 Savage later this week. So she’s staying busy, thank god.
