On Friday, members of NASA's New Horizons team giddily shared more stunning images of Pluto. One is a composite of four images that gives us, in true color, an extremely sharp view of the (maybe dwarf) planet:

The false color version of this image shows the stark differences in the planet's terrain:

The team also shared an image showing Pluto from New Horizons in retreat—proof that we were there, and have left, said principal investigator Alan Stern. The halo shows Pluto's hazy atmosphere.

"This was the image that almost brought tears to the eyes of the atmospheric team," said New Horizons investigator Michael Summers.

The team also offered some new scientific insight from data they've received from the mission, like a new understanding of recent ice flows on Pluto:

We can't wait for more from New Horizons.
