Cop writes 'Love a happy ending' on a Facebook post about a Black Lives Matter activist's death

Lee Cyr, a police officer in Fairborn, Ohio, is on paid administrative leave after allegedly posting a Facebook comment on an article about the late 23-year-old activist MarShawn McCarrel that read “Love a happy ending,” the Dayton Daily News reported.

McCarrel took his own life earlier this week on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse. He left behind a legacy of passionate community work and affecting poetry; his family remembered him as someone who was always writing, ever since he was born.

“The Statehouse was no accident,” Molly Shack, an organizer with the Ohio Student Association, told the Columbus Dispatch. “We’ve been working so hard, and yet the conditions for the people in our community and the people that he loved and cared about are still so hard. I have to imagine that that burden weighed a lot on him.”

Cyr was reportedly not on duty when the post was made.
