Last night, Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib was filmed calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump and referring to him as a “motherfucker,” which is an objectively great thing to say, but is really, really upsetting some of Washington D.C.’s worst residents.
Speaking at an event for MoveOn.org, Tlaib, who was sworn in to the 116th Congress on Thursday, recalled a comment about bullies that her son had made to her, according to the Detroit Free Press.
“People love you. And you win. And when your son looks at you and says, ‘Mama, look you won, bullies don’t win.’ And I said, ‘Baby, they don’t,’ because we’re gonna go in there and we’re gonna impeach the motherfucker,” Tlaib said, the audience roaring in response.
“We’re gonna go in there and we’re gonna impeach the motherfucker.” It’s a little wordy to fit on the front of a #Resistance shirt, but holy shit if that phrase doesn’t get people going!
But there are also many conservatives, Proud Liberals, and vacant media personalities who think that Tlaib shouldn’t have referred to Trump as a motherfucker, and are currently being very loud about it.
On Friday morning, Trump appeared to weigh in, referring to the general call for his impeachment without mentioning Tlaib by name.
“They only want to impeach me because they know they can’t win in 2020, too much success!” he wrote.
Trump is saying a lot of things here, but one thing he hasn’t said is that he disagrees with being referred to as a motherfucker. I’m just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .
Update, 9:32 a.m. ET: Tlaib responded to the fracas on Twitter.
