Elin Nordegren Slams Tiger Woods in Graduation Speech This Weekend
LatestAfter nine long years of hard work and dedication, Tiger Wood’s ex-wife finally got her college degree and along with it, the last laugh.
Graduating with a 3.96 grade-point average, the Swedish born Psychology major was asked to speak at the Rollins College commencement ceremony on Saturday, providing roughly 10 minutes for her to ditch that ‘woman with no words’ reputation.
“Education is the one thing no one can take away from you,” she said. With several odes to her own mother, and mothers everywhere struggling everywhere to finish school, Elin spoke candidly about her nine year battle both professionally and personally.
“When I entered my student advisor office in the fall of 2005, I was 25 years old, I had just recently moved to America, I was married without children,” Nordegren said. “Today, nine years later, I’m a proud American, and I have two beautiful children — but I’m no longer married.” The line delivered with a twinkle in her eye, was met with cheers and applause.
Clearly the students and faculty at Rollins have come to know Elin and her children, Sam Alexis, 6, and Charlie Axel, 5, well. “Nine years is a pretty long time,” she said.
Nordegren gave several examples of how her course work provided tools to navigate the media scrutiny and complexities in the legal system during Tiger’s embarrassing cheating scandal just five years ago and their subsequent messy divorce. Knowledge that clearly paid off, considering Nordegren reportedly received a $750 million settlement.
But for a woman who may always be known as the wife of that famous golfer who slept with 10, 11, 12, 13 (I’ve lost count) other women, money can’t buy her happiness or a different reputation, like only time and a few great one lines can.
So congrats Elin! And not just for graduating, but for taking some sweet revenge without having to slash up the face and windshield of someone who shall remain nameless.
