Fake Conor Oberst Covers Beyonce's 'Drunk in Love'

Latest

UPDATE: Terrible Records has updated their SoundCloud to clarify the fact that it was not, in fact, Conor Oberst (the page now reads “Connor Oburst”) who stopped by the studio to cover “Drunk in Love.”

The true identity of the mystery cover artist has not been revealed.

Who hasn’t covered Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” at this point? Everyone seems to have taken a stab at the song, from The Weeknd to Future to this man who did a smooth jazz sax rendition.

But the award for the most unrecognizable (some might say unlistenable) version goes to Conor Oberst, who performed the song on Terrible Record’s YAK Radio. The Bright Eyes front-man gives the track new emo energy by alternately screaming, crying and laughing over an acoustic guitar. One thing is guaranteed: you’ve never heard “SURFBOARD” like this before.

YAK Radio is presented by Dev Hynes of Blood Orange and producer/musician/label-founder extraordinaire Ethan Silverman; the full show can be heard here.

Alexandra DiPalma is a producer for Fusion Lightworks, Fusion’s In-house Branded Content Agency.
