LAS VEGAS—The first Latina elected to the U.S. Senate says she’s ready to give Donald Trump a good fight in Washington, DC.
“I’ll be one hell of a checks and balances on him,” Nevada Senator-elect Catherine Cortez Masto told a cheering crowd during her victory speech early Wednesday morning. “Tonight we start our fight together.”
Cortez Masto told the crowd her grandfather came to the U.S. from Chihuahua, Mexico, something that has taken on special meaning as President-elect Trump gets ready to move into the White House.
“The diversity here is our strength and we will continue to be strong,” she said.
