Flawless, famous ladies and gorgeous gowns at the Amazon India couture show

The Amazon India Couture Show, a mecca for spotlighting South Asian luxury fashion, took place in New Delhi last week. Known for its vibrant colors, dazzling jewels, and beautiful excess, Indian fashion was on grand display as India’s designer powerhouses showcased their newest bridal collections by enlisting some of Bollywood’s top female talent.

As India gears up for its grandiose annual late-summer wedding season, the fashion show featured famous divas in bold ensembles, showing off the details and bringing the drama.

Starting with Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari for designer Debarun Mukherjee:

According to India Today, Mukherjee’s collection followed a timeline of fashion in Indian cinema, dating back to the minimalist black-and-white era and including today’s more contemporary, lavish stylings. Hydari wore a lehenga — a timeless staple of Indian women’s clothing consisting inherently of nothing more than a blouse, a long skirt, and a lengthy garment elaborately draped around the body — and embraced a decidedly more demure and modern look.

Actress Chitrangadha Singh also styled Mukherjee’s lehenga, yet took on a more antique style often emulated by Indian brides in the 80s and 90s. Mukherjee’s collection was evidence that even a simple article of clothing continues to dynamically evolve with fashion.

Richa Chadda donned another classic bridal lehenga designed by Reynu Taandon. According to IndiaToday, the outfit is reminiscent of the old world charm prevalent during the rule of the royals in the 1800s.

Kriti Sanon took on a grunge fusion of Indo-western style and neatly juxtaposes a lounging gray tank with elaborate jewelry and an intricately bedazzled skirt. This minimal yet ornate ensemble might just be the perfect wedding outfit for a chillax, Netflix-over-parties kind of gal. Plus the high-top sneakers are perfect.

Sanon fearlessly flaunted her boldly tatted arms. Even though tattoos are part of Indian history, Western style tattoos are still regarded with disdain and are often viewed with shame.

Designer Manav Gangwani embraced contemporary ~girly~ with his floral collection of dresses, featuring actress Kangana Ranaut as his showstopper. Weighing in at 66 pounds, Ranaut told reporters on Sunday the dress was so heavy it often pushed her forward. And you thought carrying all your grocery bags home in one trip was hard.

Actress Shilpa Shetty scorched the runway in this glistening golden trousseau designed by Rimple and Harpreet Narula, a duo famous for mixing rural designs with intricate embroidery. Bollywood’s longtime darling and winner of the 43rd season of UK’s Celebrity Big Brother, Shetty is an internationally famous showbiz veteran known for her elegance. She carried the heavy outfit with an inordinate grace and regality.

Internationally renowned actress, recipient of Miss World 1994, and known as the Angelina Jolie of Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai is an undeniable mix of cinematic talent and sartorial prowess.

Rai, an actress, model, and consistent humanitarian, has kept away from the public eye to pursue a lowkey family life. She returned to the runway after five years to strut her ageless stuff for India’s most famous designer, Manish Malhotra, a style icon who has not only made an indelible mark on Indian fashion but has designed costumes for the likes of Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Demi Moore, and more. Rai reported having a flu the day of the show, but that’s not the type of sick she exuded on the catwalk.
