Gaymer chats up guys on Grindr using lines from Pokémon. Hilarity ensues.

Anyone who has ever spent time on Grindr knows that communicating on the popular gay “networking” application can be a tricky process. Picking just the right phrase can be the difference between spending a night alone or Netflix and chilling with that bearded cellist who’s only 2,349 feet away.

With that in mind, Shaun Kitchener took to Grindr with a simple question in mind: What if he used the app and spoke to guys using nothing but dialogue pulled from the Pokémon games?

“I was thinking recently of the sheer number of random Trainers dotted all over every game,” Kitchener explained on his blog. “There must be hundreds in each one, surely. And whenever they initiate battle, they always have some kind of weird one-liner to throw at you.”

I developed a weird obsession with those quotes and wondered how far I’d get if I used them as battle come-ons in real life – only replace “battle” with “flirtatious”, and replace “in real life” with “on Grindr”.

The results, as you might expect, were fantastic.
