Georgia police issue arrest warrant for white officer who allegedly lied about being shot by a black man

On September 13, Sherry Hall, an officer with the Jackson City Police, reported that she’d been shot while doing a routine patrol downtown.

Hall claimed that she approached a black man whom she thought was out of place and that, when things turned south, the man pulled a gun on her, shot her in the abdomen and ran off. Were it not for her bulletproof vest, authorities claimed, Hall might have been severely injured.

“That was good that she had on a bullet-proof vest and that she didn’t get killed,” a resident of the area told CBS 46 at the time. “You see, that means that God was with her.”

Now, though, the Jackson City Police say that Hall made the entire story up and then falsified evidence in an attempt to cover up her lies.

A new investigation being conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has revealed that Hall was in possession of another police-issued Glock .27 that none of her superiors apparently knew about. Hall initially claimed that she fired twice at the made-up person who shot her, but the GBI has been unable to corroborate her story.

The Jackson police have issued a warrant for Hall’s arrest and are currently accusing her of falsifying statements, concealing facts, tampering with evidence, and violating her oath as a police officer. While no one seems to have been physically injured due to Hall’s alleged lies, this entire event takes place at a time when tensions between police officers and black communities across the country are on edge.

Earlier this week, Keith Lamont Scott was shot and killed by police officers in Charlotte, North Carolina, who claimed that he was armed with a shot gun and threatening their lives. Scott’s family contends that he was unarmed and the officers shot him without reason. Recently released footage of the shooting shot on a cell phone has raised further questions as to which side is telling the truth about what happens.

In Hall’s case, there seems to be no question as to who’s in the wrong, but her actions do nothing to assuage the public’s concerns that the police do, in fact, lie about things.
