Grammys Honor Women by Giving Award to Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran just won the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Shape of You.” He beat out four women to win it! And he didn’t even show up to collect it! Because nothing proves the music industry’s commitment to highlighting the work of underrepresented and oppressed women quite like giving Ed Sheeran a Grammy.

Sheeran was up against Kelly Clarkson (“Love So Soft”), Kesha (“Praying”), Lady Gaga (“Million Reasons”), and Pink (“What About Us”). As many have pointed out, the fact that Lady Gaga and especially Kesha have given us deep, personal and timely work and lost to Ed Sheeran of all people says a lot more about the industry’s dedication to combatting sexism than some white roses.

But sure, give Sheeran the award for that goddamn ear worm that sounds suspiciously similar to “No Scrubs.”
