It costs more to be dead in Manhattan than to be alive basically anywhere else

Latest

If you have $350,000 to spend and would like to be dead forever on the Lower East Side, then you can buy one of the only two underground burial plots up for sale in Manhattan.

As Gothamist reported this week, of the 11 remaining cemeteries in Manhattan, only the New York Marble Cemetery (Ed. note: VERY good website) is selling graves to the public. (Or the portion of the public with $350,000 to spend on a literal actual tomb.)

Relatedly, the average cost of a Manhattan home has hit a new high of $1.87 million, or roughly five graves.
