Jeff Sessions Says He Wants to Separate Every Single Family Caught at the Border

This week in Attorney General Jeff Sessions fighting for racism in America: a plan to separate more brown mothers from their children.

Sessions said on Monday that any undocumented people caught crossing the U.S.-Mexico border with children will have their children taken from them.

“If you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you and that child will be separated from you as required by law. If you don’t like that, then don’t smuggle children over our border,” Sessions said in a speech in San Diego on Monday.

Sessions said his agency is partnering with the Department of Homeland Security to refer “100 percent of illegal Southwest border crossings to the Department of Justice for prosecution.”

“If you cross this border unlawfully, then we will prosecute you. It’s that simple,” Sessions said during the speech.

The new policy will automatically classify the children of parents facing prosecution as unaccompanied minors, according to Politico:

Under the new policy, children will be classified as unaccompanied minors if their parents are arrested on illegal entry changes, which will put them in the custody of the Health and Human Resources Department until they can be placed with a guardian.

Sessions also declared he’s doubling down on asylum seekers.

“If you make false statements to an immigration officer or commit fraud in our system to obtain an immigration benefit, that’s a felony. We will put you in jail,” said Sessions. “If you help others to do so, that’s a felony, too.”

That would be fine if the U.S. just stopped interfering in Mexican and Central American economies and elections. But since it keeps recognizing questionably elected presidents who then unleash security forces on their citizens, causing them to migrate in the first place, it seems the cycle will continue.
