Jorge Ramos Confronts Joe Arpaio Over Racial Profiling

Latest

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he doesn’t engage in racial profiling.

A federal judge disagrees. This May, he found the Arizona sheriff culpable of singling out Latinos in traffic stops.

Now he’s assigned Arpaio a monitor to make sure his department respects the constitutional rights of all residents.

Fusion’s Jorge Ramos traveled to Arizona last month to ask Arpaio about racial profiling.

Check out this clip — Ramos asks the sheriff if his deputies would arrest someone just because they think the person is in the country without legal status.

The full interview will be out after Fusion launches on October 28.

Ted Hesson was formerly the immigration editor at Fusion, covering the issue from Washington, D.C. He also writes about drug laws and (occasionally) baseball. On the side: guitars, urban biking, and fiction.
