Adding insult to injury over Wednesday’s inconclusive government shutdown meeting involving President Donald Trump and Democrats Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer, Homeland Security Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen took a page from the president’s book and tweeted about how pissed off she was that no one listened to her!

“I am disappointed that Dems did not want to hear from @DHSgov about the security & humanitarian crisis we are facing at the border,” Nielsen tweeted late Wednesday night. “They didn’t want to hear about criminal aliens, drug smugglers, smuggled & abused children or violent caravans trying to breach the border wall.”

Nielsen has no one to blame for being snubbed by Pelosi and Schumer in Wednesday’s meeting than Trump himself, who apparently summoned her to rattle off lies after he began arguing for money for his border wall/fence/barrier/thing. Per the New York Times:

[Wednesday’s gathering] quickly turned tense as Mr. Trump argued for his wall and called on Kirstjen Nielsen, the homeland security secretary, who appeared via teleconference from the border in San Diego to stress the need for it, according to two of the officials who were at the meeting.

Mr. Schumer interjected, calling on Ms. Pelosi, who disputed Ms. Nielsen’s statistics, two of the officials said. Ms. Pelosi then laid out the legislative proposals she planned to bring up on Thursday, detailing how the spending measures had all received broad bipartisan support either in committees or on the floor in the Republican-controlled Congress.

It doesn’t seem so much that Pelosi and Schumer weren’t listening to Nielsen, but that they instead heard her and realized what she was saying was, uhh, not true. From CBS News:

Shortly into the briefing, according to the official, Nielsen was interrupted when Schumer whispered to Pelosi and Pelosi objected to what was being discussed. The official, Pelosi said, took issue with basic figures Nielsen presented, such as the number of criminal illegal immigrants who attempted to cross the border last year.

More specifically, Nielsen appeared to be lying about border apprehensions. From Bloomberg:

The second-ranking Senate Democrat, Dick Durbin of Illinois, said that Nielsen’s briefing on the situation at the border “was not a credible presentation.”

“It was preposterous,” Durbin said. “At a time when we have the lowest level of apprehensions at the border — stopping people from coming in illegally — the lowest level historically, she is saying that we have all these terrorists and criminals and all these people on their way in.”

Nielsen claimed that Customs and Border Protection had arrested 17,000 people with criminal records at the border, one of the people familiar with the meeting said. Pelosi responded that it wasn’t true and the administration was counting anyone who crossed the border illegally as having a criminal record.

Maybe they didn’t want to hear what you had to say, Nielsen, because what you were saying was false. Just a thought.
