Latin Grammy performers slam 'los racistas' running for president

While Natalia Lafourcade was the big winner at the 2015 Latin Grammy Awards, taking home a total of five statues, Maná and Los Tigres del Norte might have stolen the show.

The two legendary bands united onstage to perform Maná’s “Ironía” and Los Tigres’ “Somos Más Americanos” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nev., Thursday night, The Guardian reports.

At the end of their set, members of both groups unfurled a sign that read “Latinos unidos no voten por los racistas,” which roughly translates to “Latinos united don’t vote for the racists” in English.

Who are los racistas in question? Well, Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump once said that Mexican immigrants are “rapists” who bring “drugs” and “crime” across the border with them. But who knows! It could be anyone. It could even be Donald Trump.

“We wanted to send a proactive message,” Maná lead singer Fher Olvera told The Los Angeles Times. “And the message for Latinos—of which there are 50 million in the United States, in the No. 2 Spanish-speaking country in the world—was to send the message: Register, go out and vote, and vote for the candidate that will do positive things for Latinos.”

“We have so many people who need immigration reform,” lead singer of Los Tigres Jorge Hernández told the Times. “We have so many people who need other kinds of help. And for those of us who can vote, often we take it for granted. So we are here to say, ‘If you can do it, think of those in need.'”
